GPA Calculation Guide
This calculator converts letter grades to numerical values using the following scale:
Standard Grade Scale:
- A+ = 4.0
- A = 4.0
- A- = 3.7
- B+ = 3.3
- B = 3.0
- B- = 2.7
- C+ = 2.3
- C = 2.0
- C- = 1.7
- D+ = 1.3
- D = 1.0
- D- = 0.7
- F = 0.0
Special Cases:
- P (Pass), NP (No Pass), W (Withdrawal) are not calculated in GPA
- Weighted scales (AP/IB) award extra points (A = 5.0 instead of 4.0)
How GPA is Calculated:
GPA = (Sum of (Grade Points × Credits)) ÷ Total Credits
Example Calculation:
Course | Credits | Grade | Calculation | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|
Math | 4 | A | 4 × 4.0 | 16.0 |
Science | 3 | B+ | 3 × 3.3 | 9.9 |
English | 2 | C | 2 × 2.0 | 4.0 |
Total | 9 | Sum | 29.9 | |
GPA | 29.9 ÷ 9 | 3.32 |
Key Notes:
- More credits = greater impact on GPA
- Weighted courses (honors/AP) use a 5.0 scale (toggle in Settings)
- Past GPA can be incorporated (see Settings)
This system reflects standard U.S. grading, though some institutions may vary (+/- grades or E instead of F). Your GPA is calculated automatically when you input courses and grades.
