Army Body Fat Calculator
The Army Body Fat Calculator is based on the Army Body Fat Assessment for the Army Body Composition Program. To ensure accuracy, take the average of at least three measurements and round to the nearest pound or 0.5 inch.
Army Body Fat Standards Reference
Maintaining a healthy body fat percentage is a key fitness requirement for U.S. Army personnel. As of June 12, 2023, updates to the Army Body Composition Program link body fat directly to performance on the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT). Soldiers scoring 540+ on the ACFT, with at least 80 points in each event, are exempt from body fat assessments.
For others, body fat is measured using a tape-based method at the abdomen, and results must fall within age- and gender-specific limits (e.g., males 17–20: 20%; females 17–20: 30%).
If a soldier fails the tape test, they may request a more precise assessment using approved methods like DXA, In Body 770, or the Bod Pod. Failing both assessments results in enrollment in the Army Body Composition Program (ABCP) to support improvement.
